I can’t remember not having dry skin. I basically came out of the womb with eczema. There were times during harsh winters in elementary school when folds of my outer ear would peel and bleed. Let’s not forget the worst ex-boyfriend ever who would refuse to hold my hand because they were so rough. I can still hear his god-awful accent whining about them. Before I realized his relentless complaining was a projection of his own insecurities, I resorted to buying a paraffin wax machine but of course, then my hands were too greasy.
Anyway…although I have grown out of most of the eczema, my skin is still dry. I have to stay on top of it but it’s nice to not worry how my extremities will react once the temperature drops. I’ve noticed as I have gotten older that my night cream wasn’t enough during colder nights. I have used a few overnight masks and wanted to share with you my top three incase you need an extra layer to help moisturize your skin while you sleep. These three are suitable for all skin types and it’s best to use an overnight mask no more than 2-3x a week and give your skin a break between each use.
I initially started using this when my skin was really dry but now I reach for the Farmacy Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm with Echinacea GreenEnvy™ ($48) regularly because it really has made my face and neck visibly firmer. I love using this because it’s texture is different than traditional overnight creams because it feels like a balm. I love the way my skin looks in the morning after using it. A little does go a long way so be careful to not apply too much. It will initially make your skin feel a little greasy so don’t let that discourage you! The label indicates it can be used nightly but spot test first and always build up to nightly use with an overnight product.
I have used the Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Hydro Sleep Mask ($48) the longest out of all of these products. However, my skin can have too much of a good thing so I can’t use the same product for too long or it won’t work as well. This is a lightweight gel with an herbal scent that doesn’t feel tacky after it has had a chance to absorb into my skin. I love to bring this with me when I travel. It helps offset any change in weather that can trigger a reaction from my skin. I love putting it on before a long flight too.
The Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask is my favorite scent of all three. Its feels like a fluffy jelly and it even helped clear up one of the worst hormonal breakouts I have had in recent memory. This really hydrates my skin and I like that it comes in a glass jar. We have been traveling a lot this month and this is great at alleviating the puffiness I get when my sleeping and eating routines are out of whack. I also love when products come in a mini size ($22) so you can test it before committing to the more expensive, fuller size.
Have you tried any of these? What did you think?
