We are less than two weeks away from the beginning of Memorial Day Weekend. You may have found the perfect swimsuit or an ideal pair of summer wedges but have you thought about what to include in your beauty arsenal? If not, don’t worry. I have compiled a list of must-have misters you will want to pack before you head out to the beach. Although, you may want to panic if you haven’t booked your Jitney for MDW. I just checked and the 2:15 pickup from 69th street on Friday, May 24th is already sold out.
The LUMIONskin Mist ($28) – I have used this (as well as the Serum) since LUMION launched in 2017. This mist goes with me wherever I go. I consider this a MIST-have no matter what time of year it is. I use it while flying, after working out, or when I am waiting in the carpool line. I mean, I even used this while laying in bed the morning after the first night of Momcation (for an idea of what Momcation entailed visualize that picture of Kate Moss coming out of the Thames with a cigarette and a champagne glass). You can even use this over make-up.
The mist contains three simple, but powerful ingredients: electrolyzed oxygenated water, sodium chloride (Dead Sea salts), and hypochlorous acid (HOCL). HOCL is a robust oxidizer as well as an effective sanitizing agent. This study from 2014 found a stabilized HOCL solution was an extremely effective microbicide. Why wouldn’t you want to want to spray something on your face throughout the day that contains an ingredient that is proven to fight bacteria? You won’t find anything cleaner to use on your skin that offsets the affects of air pollution or other environmental stressors. You can also receive 10% off your first order if you order from the LUMION website.
Soleil Toujours Organic Aloe Antioxidant Calming Mist ($26) – I have talked about Soleil Toujours here and here (yes, you should get those too…) but I recently tried the Aloe Antioxidant Calming Mist after getting a little too much sun on my chest and arms walking around Charleston. I like that it’s soothing but is not thick like most after-sun products containing aloe. This will be great if you miss a spot or wait to reapply and get a little red. If you are wanting something stronger because you anticipate getting badly burnt, then please just stay inside. If you’re reading this then I assume you’re an adult and are competent enough to wear sunscreen and know when you need to reapply! This Calming Mist will also be great if you’re still on the beach after the sun goes down since it contains Vitamin C which helps lighten dark spots.
Soleil Toujours Organic Set + Protect Micro Mist SPF 30 ($36) – No, Soleil Toujours has not paid me to profess my admiration for their products (although if they’re reading this, I wouldn’t be opposed to a collab!) I just really appreciate a line of products with ingredients that are 70% organic, are reef-safe, don’t contain hormonal disrupting crap, smell great, and come in luxurious packaging! The setting spray smells SO good and I use it after applying my make-up everyday.
Klorane Sun Radiance Protective Oil with Ylang-Ylang Wax ($18) – This is the best functional spray for your hair if you are going to be in a pool or outside for an extended period of time. I really like the smell too. There are a ton of sprays out there that can give you beachy waves but do nothing to protect your hair from UV rays or chlorine. I was worried it was going to be too waxy since it claims to guard against so many damaging elements but it’s very light.
Playa Endless Summer Spray ($24) – If you don’t have anywhere to go but still want to achieve beach waves, look no further. Sprays meant to achieve that effortless, ethereal look are either too sticky or dry my hair out. This spray is alcohol-free and doesn’t make my mane feel stiff. I can’t speak to how this will work for you if you have thick or coarse hair though. It’s pretty lightweight which is great for me.
