I wanted to feature my sweet mother because Mother’s Day is upon us and there is no better compliment than being told I look like her!
I like to think I got it from my Mama but the truth is, I lived a much harder lifestyle in my 20s than my mother did. She never smoked, doesn’t drink and has always been steadfast with her self-care routines. She actually found me in atrocious condition the morning after one particularly epic Thanksgiving Eve. The day I almost ruined her favorite holiday remains in the forefront of family tales we regale newcomers. There was vomit next to my bed. It was bad. I had also forgotten to put on pajamas. When I got myself together, I came downstairs to see a vitamin, a glass of orange juice and a homemade blueberry muffin waiting for me. My mom glared at me with her arms crossed and said, “…and to top it all off, Abigail, you didn’t even take off your eye makeup last night.” I told you she was steadfast.
What is your skin type?
Mostly dry these days, it craves moisturizer. I can hear my skin thanking me as I apply it to my face.
What products have you used the longest?
I really like Maybelline’s (she’s born with it AND maybe it’s Maybelline!) Great Lash mascara. It’s inexpensive, washable and doesn’t smudge. The wand is small and works for me. I’ve tried other high end mascaras but always go back to Great Lash. I also like Laura Mercier’s Creme Lipstick. I think I have used it since it came out.
What is the best beauty advice you have ever received?
Always wash your makeup off before bed and keep your hands off of your face.
Have you ever had a beauty mishap?
I was prescribed topical Tretinoin for acne as a teenager and had an awful reaction to it. I should have been told to spot test it!
What do you think is the best thing younger women can do for their skin?
Definitely use a sunscreen, that contains safe ingredients, no matter the season. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to your hands when you’re driving in the car!
