I washed my hair nearly every single day for the first twenty-three years of my life. A friend in graduate school overheard me say this and couldn’t believe it. My excuse was the same it had always been when she asked why I washed it everyday, “it gets too greasy if I don’t…” She explained that it felt oily because my sebaceous glands were overcompensating by producing more sebum since they were being stripped of their natural oils. She said it would only take a week to ‘train’ my hair into not having to wash it every morning. I was skeptical.
Ultimately, she was right.
We had spring break coming up so she suggested I try it while we were away. The regimen was simple. I would wash it every other day and on the ‘non-wash’ days pull it back or use dry shampoo. She said the first few non-wash days would be the toughest since she knew I would get antsy seeing a greasy scalp. It was also a lot easier to handle the non-wash days since I could stay inside in the comfort of my home. I noticed a difference at the end of the week. In hindsight this was an extremely easy way to make my hair healthier.
Try this and let me know if it works for you too!
